ROBERTO PASTUCH / MMA-PODCAST MIT HOMERAMA
Roberto Pastuch is a lifelong martial artist, MMA fighter, Brazilian jiu jitsu Black Belt and Coach to the only Austrian in the UFC, Aleksandar Rakic. Roberto has been everywhere and done it all. After starting karate and aikido at a young age in Argentina, he started training Bjj in his early 20s which led him to MMA and to Brazil, after finishing his masters in sports science, where he started training MMA and Bjj more seriously. He made his way by fighting and coaching to the United States and finally to Europe where he trained, fought and coached in Germany, Sweden and finally Austria.
Roberto is the head coach of Aleksandar “Rocket” Rakic.
Rakic is currently the only MMA fighter out of Austria on the UFC roaster, the premier MMA promotion in the world. Coaching an athlete of Rakics level is a team effort, since MMA has many facets and there are many skills that need to be trained. For that many coaches are needed, for example for boxing, wrestling, kickboxing and jiu jitsu. But also a head coach who's has to tie everything together and work out a game plan for the fight according to the strengths and weakness of the fighter and the given opponent.
Roberto sees himself less as a coach and more as a fellow fighter and friend that helps his fellow fighters become better. For that reason, he sees fighting as an integral part of his coaching. Staying up to date on technique, training methods and fighting styles. His training methods are leaning on the traditional Japanese philosophy of “Budo” that he takes from his aikido background. Roberto sees martial art not as a sport but a way of life, a creed which he lives by. This is the concept that he tries to give to his students. Every thing that is done in and outside training, in gym
or in life has to have the purpose of betting yourself. If it is not that, then it is waste.
